Job summary

GR8 Recruitment in Saint Helier, Jersey, is seeking motivated general labourers to join our civil engineering and roadworks teams. You will support experienced crews across asphalt operations, assist with site safety, and help deliver projects safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities include day-to-day site tasks, road reinstatement, traffic management support where trained, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment on varying sites.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in civil engineering, roadworks, groundworks, or asphalt laying is desirable but not essential.
• Good understanding of site safety and safe working practices.
• Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Reliable, punctual, practical, and willing to learn.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a responsible approach to health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day site activities, including digging, filling, levelling, loading, unloading, and moving materials.
• Support groundworkers, machine operators, asphalt gangs, and other site personnel as directed.
• Assist with the preparation, reinstatement, and finishing of roads, footpaths, driveways, trenches, and other work areas.
• Handle tools, equipment, materials, and machinery safely and responsibly.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards, keeping work areas clean, tidy, and free from unnecessary hazards.
• Assist with road preparation, excavation, kerbing, drainage, paving, and reinstatement works.
• Support asphalt operations, including preparing work areas, moving materials, raking, shovelling, and assisting the laying team as required.
• Assist with the installation and removal of temporary traffic management measures, barriers, signs, and pedestrian diversions, where trained and authorised.
• Help protect existing underground and surface services by following site instructions and safe digging procedures.
• Attend work punctually and be prepared to work at different sites as required.
• Follow reasonable instructions from management and cooperate with colleagues to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
• Take care of company tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials.
• Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of the role as required by operational needs.
