Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an experienced Site Engineer for a major highways project in Cheshire, working night shifts on a busy motorway section. You will set out and survey works, maintain records and support the temporary works and QA processes to ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

The contract runs in two phases from late Oct to late Jan, with potential extension to March. You will need a CSCS card, GPS/total station setup, and the ability to work independently on night shifts on site.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Site Engineer on highways or infrastructure.
• Setting out with GPS and total station equipment.
• Strong QA documentation and site records experience.
• Able to work independently on night shifts.
• CSCS Card is essential.
• SSSTS/SMSTS desirable; NRSWA advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Set out and survey works per design drawings and specs.
• Produce and maintain accurate site records and as-builts.
• Manage QA processes and inspections/test plans (ITPs).
• Support site management with daily planning and coordination.
• Maintain health, safety and environmental standards.
• Liaise with subcontractors, supervisors and client.
• Monitor progress and report issues affecting programme.
• Assist with temporary works, traffic management and highway construction.

Site Engineer - Highways (Night Shift)

Location: Cheshire (Major Highways Project)

Duration: Initial 9-week contract (26th October - 18th December), returning 4th January - 29th January. Potential for extension through to the end of March.

Shift Pattern: Nights

Rate: £450 CIS

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a major highways project in Cheshire, working on a busy section of the Motorway. This is a night shift position supporting the delivery of critical highways infrastructure works, ensuring projects are completed safely, on programme and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting out and surveying works in accordance with design drawings and specifications.
• Producing and maintaining accurate site records and as-built information.
• Managing quality assurance processes and completing relevant inspections and test plans (ITPs).
• Supporting site management with daily planning and coordination of works.
• Ensuring health, safety and environmental standards are maintained at all times.
• Liaising with subcontractors, supervisors and the client team.
• Monitoring progress and reporting any issues that may impact programme delivery.
• Assisting with temporary works, traffic management and highway construction activities.
• Ensuring works are delivered in line with National Highways and project requirements.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Site Engineer on highways, roads or infrastructure projects.
• Competent in setting out using GPS and total station equipment.
• Strong understanding of QA documentation and site records.
• Ability to work independently on night shifts.
• CSCS Card essential.
• SMSTS or SSSTS desirable.
• NRSWA qualification advantageous.
• Experience working on live highways schemes is highly desirable.

• Extension: Potential for one engineer to remain on the project through to the end of March
