Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a highly skilled Site Engineer for a major highway project in Penrith, Cumbria. The role focuses on dual carriageway earthworks and drainage for the A66 scheme. Immediate start available on a 3 month contract with potential extension.

Requirements include a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent, 2–3 years' highway site experience, CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, and a UK driving licence. Salary up to £440 per day (Umbrella, inside IR35) and Penrith location.

Qualifications

• Degree/HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required.
• 2–3 years' site engineer experience with a Tier 1 contractor on highways projects.
• Valid UK driving licence, CSCS card and SSSTS/SMSTS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee site operations with direct labour and subcontractors.
• Execute precise setting out and dimensional checks; maintain survey records.
• Perform QA tasks including compaction testing and volume takes-offs.
• Develop Works Package Plans, risk assessments and method statements.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance on-site.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers; maintain daily site diaries.

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and professional Site Engineer to join a major highway infrastructure project in Penrith, Cumbria. This initiative involves the development of a dual carriageway, with a specific focus on complex earthworks and drainage infrastructure for the A66 scheme. Due to project requirements, we are looking for candidates who are available to start immediately.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee site operations, managing both direct labour and subcontracted teams.
• Execute precise setting out, conduct dimensional checks, and maintain rigorous survey records.
• Perform quality assurance tasks, including compaction testing and volume take-offs.
• Develop essential documentation, including Works Package Plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
• Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineering staff while maintaining accurate daily site diaries.

Qualifications

• Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• 2-3 years of experience as a Site Engineer with a Tier 1 contractor, specifically in highways.
• Valid UK driving licence, CSCS card, and SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
• Advanced technical ability in reading engineering drawings and managing site logistics.

Contract Type: 3 month contract with the potential for extension
Salary: up to £440 per day (Umbrella rate, inside IR35)
