Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick, part of VolkerWessels UK, is seeking an experienced Site Agent to lead earthworks delivery on rail projects in the Wessex Route region. Based from bases in Basingstoke or London, you will travel to sites across the region to ensure safe, timely project execution.

The successful candidate will have civil engineering experience, leadership skills, and a strong appreciation of Network Rail standards, with qualifications in CSCS/SMSTS and a full UK driving license.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Agent or Senior Engineer on infrastructure projects.
• Delivery of earthworks, geotechnical works, slope stabilisation or soil nailing.
• Understanding of Network Rail standards, processes and practices.
• Proven leadership and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver projects safely, on time and to budget across the Wessex Route region.
• Report to the Project Manager and coordinate earthworks activities.
• Manage subcontractors, programmes and interfaces with stakeholders.
• Promote safety, quality and continuous improvement on site.

Job description

VolkerFitzpatrick offers a range and depth of civil engineering, infrastructure and building services. We build, renew, maintain highways, airports, railway infrastructure, and commercial, industrial and educational buildings.

As a key delivery partner on the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE), our Earthworks Team plays a crucial role in protecting and maintaining the railway infrastructure, delivering a diverse portfolio of projects including embankment stabilisation, soil nailing, slope remediation, retaining structures, and geotechnical asset renewals. Due to an increase in workload, we are seeking an experienced Site Agent to join our Earthworks Team. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and successful delivery projects across the Wessex Route - London to Exeter. Based from either our Basingstoke or Blackfriars office, the role will involve regular travel to sites throughout the region, requiring flexibility to support projects across a wide geographical area.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and driven rail/civil engineering professional with a strong background in civil engineering and earthworks delivery, ideally within the rail sector. You will ideally have:

• Previous experience working as a Site Agent or Senior Engineer on infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
• Experience delivering earthworks, geotechnical, slope stabilisation, soil nailing, embankment remediation or similar projects.
• A good understanding of Network Rail standards, processes and working practices.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience managing subcontractors, budgets and programme delivery.
• A focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• HNC/HND or Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• SMSTS qualification.
• CSCS card.
• PTS certification (desirable).
• Temporary Works Coordinator certification (desirable).
• Full UK driving licence.
