Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick is seeking a Senior Engineer/CRE-C to join our Buildings team, delivering platform upgrades and station improvements on Network Rail’s Southern Route. Based from Basingstoke, Blackfriars or Gravesend, you’ll work in a busy railway environment.

You will lead engineering teams, ensure safety standards, review designs for NR compliance, and support commercial teams in cost control and change management while developing CRE accreditation.

Qualifications

• Experience as CRE and/or Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) in Rail/Buldings/Civil projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of station, platform and building projects in rail.
• Experience mentoring and developing Project/ Site Engineers.
• Ability to manage delivery teams and subcontractors safely and efficiently.
• Good understanding of contracts and cost control in construction.

• Support delivery of building and station enhancement projects across Network Rail's Southern Route.
• Coordinate with civils, M&E, track, signalling and operations stakeholders.
• Review designs to ensure compliance with Network Rail standards and project requirements.

We have an Outstanding opportunity for a Senior Engineer / CRE-C to join our Buildings team working within the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE).

This role can be based from any of our offices in Basingstoke, Blackfriars or Gravesend, supporting the delivery of a varied portfolio of building and station enhancement projects across Network Rail's Southern Route. The works will predominantly involve platform upgrades, station improvement schemes, accessibility enhancements and associated building works within the operational railway environment.

This presents an excellent opportunity for an existing CRE-C looking for their next challenge, or for an experienced engineer seeking to develop their career towards CRE accreditation whilst working on a diverse range of multidisciplinary projects.

About you

• MEng, BEng, Foundation Degree, HNC/HND, BTEC or Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Experience undertaking the role of CRE and/or Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) within a Rail, Buildings, Civil Engineering or Structures environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of station, platform, building or structural projects within the rail sector.
• Experience mentoring and developing Project Engineers, Site Engineers and Assistant Engineers.
• Ability to manage direct delivery teams and subcontractors to achieve project objectives safely and efficiently.
• Proven commitment to maintaining the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental performance.
• Good understanding of construction contracts and the ability to support commercial teams in cost control, change management and driving engineering efficiencies.
• Experience managing the integration of the buildings scope from design through construction, ensuring effective coordination with other disciplines including civils, M&E, track, signalling and operational stakeholders.
• Experience preparing tender scopes, technical specifications and engineering requirements for building and structural works.
• Ability to review designs and ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, relevant legislation and project requirements.
• PTS certification.
• CSCS card.
