Be part of a disruptive MedTech technology, benefiting millions of people globally.
OCUWELL is seeking to appoint one Software Engineer for 24 months to fulfil its commitments to a project funded by the United Kingdom Research & Innovation (UKRI) with the potential to extend or become permanent.
THE COMPANY
OCUWELL is a MedTech spin-out that provides accurate, portable, point-of-care assessment of corneal topography at <30% of the cost of existing devices, solving the problem of health inequalities in developing countries, widening access to rapid diagnostic excellence and progression monitoring everywhere. OCUWELL’s aim is to reduce the risk of blindness and visual impairment due to corneal disorders (keratoconus; dry eyes; cataract; myopia and astigmatism) and transform the delivery of eye care around the world.
THE POSITION
To achieve its targets, the company created a handheld device that is easy to use and align with the cornea, and has unique software algorithms to optimise the treatment of corneal conditions based on the device’s corneal topography measurements. The UKRI project seeks to further develop the software modules embodying these optimisation tools and assess their performance in patients with preclinical and advanced disease stages.
KEY Responsibilities:
· Develop and run complex finite element (FE) models, primarily using Abaqus, to simulate corneal biomechanics.
· Address and resolve numerical instabilities in simulations involving nonlinear and anisotropic materials.
· Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to validate simulation results against experimental and clinical data.
· Write and maintain Python scripts to automate model generation, run simulations, and process and visualise outputs.
· Document methodologies and present findings clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
· Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
· Proven experience with finite element analysis, preferably using Abaqus.
· Strong knowledge of solid mechanics and material modelling, particularly in biological tissues.
· Proficiency in Python for simulation control and data analysis.
· Demonstrated ability to manage complex simulations and mitigate convergence issues
·Have the right to work in the UK
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
· Experience in ophthalmic biomechanics or related medical device applications.
· Familiarity with scripting Abaqus using Python (CAE/INP file automation).
YOU'LL WORK WITH
You will join an agile team and work directly with a reputable and leading scientist in ocular biomechanics. You will interact with a number of other stakeholders including researchers, regulators and patients.
BENEFITS
In return, the successful candidate will receive a competitive salary depending on experience and track record.
