Overview

Stirling Dynamics is recruiting Modelling and Simulation Engineers to the Simulation, Dynamics and Control team.

Due to upcoming projects and continued growth, Stirling Dynamics are looking for multiple talented Modelling and Simulation Engineers to join our expanding team. We are looking for both permanent employees at all levels of experience, and contractors.

The successful engineers will work within a team responsible for the development of complex control algorithms and vehicle and system plant models for next generation marine applications. The role covers all aspects of model-based design, from controller design and tuning, model build, and testing. As a Simulation and Control engineer, you will work on the development of leading-edge algorithms and processes, using the latest tools to support the delivery and integration of models as part of a wider integrated model set.

Modelling, simulation, and control have been at the core of Stirling Dynamics' capabilities for over 30 years, leading in developing modelling techniques and model-based design activities. You will have the opportunity to learn from and share with other like-minded engineers across Marine, Aerospace, eVTOL, and cockpit control sectors.

The role is primarily based in our Bristol office, with occasional travel to client sites. We also support hybrid working and options to work from Preston or Derby offices.

Responsibilities

  • Developing task definitions with the technical lead
  • Defining model and control algorithm requirements
  • Building and testing models
  • Peer reviewing models
  • Preparing and presenting results and models to clients
  • Performing formal verification procedures
  • Authoring model documentation

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields

Skills

  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink and associated toolboxes
  • Understanding of control theory
  • Experience with systems modelling and vehicle dynamics
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and version control tools (e.g., GIT)

Personal Characteristics

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Adaptability to conflicting requests
  • Professional attitude
  • Self-motivated with a focus on task completion

Desired Skills

  • Experience in Marine sector applications
  • Advanced control theory, such as Kalman filters and state estimation
  • Sea state modelling, real-time models, code generation, C/C++

Experience

  • From +2 years industrial experience, all levels considered
  • Experience supporting marine projects preferred but not mandatory if skills match other industries

The role grade is 3-6, with salary ranging from £30,000 to £54,000 depending on experience. We offer comprehensive benefits and social events to support our staff.
