Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Signalling Supervisor at Milewater Road Depot, Belfast, to lead live rail signalling projects and ensure safety, quality and on-time delivery. The role combines hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

You will supervise signalling teams, manage resources, and maintain documentation, while coordinating with project teams and contractors to deliver critical rail infrastructure safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Signalling and telecommunications experience within rail industry.
  • Experience supervising or leading teams in a rail signalling environment.
  • Experience working to railway safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Experience carrying out signalling testing, maintenance, installation, or commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Signalling Supervisor

Location: Belfast, County Antrim

The role

As a Signalling Supervisor, you'll lead the delivery of safety-critical signalling works across live rail infrastructure, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with operational and railway standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced signalling professional to combine hands‑on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. You'll supervise signalling teams, support project delivery activities, coordinate resources, and play a vital role in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of railway networks.

Working in a fast‑paced and highly regulated environment, you'll have the opportunity to influence project outcomes, support operational excellence, and contribute to the successful delivery of key rail infrastructure projects.

Day-to-day, you will be:

  • Leading and coordinating signalling teams on site
  • Monitoring quality, safety, and productivity to ensure projects meet required standards and deadlines
  • Supporting planning activities, resource allocation, and site operations
  • Completing and maintaining site records, briefings, and safe system of work documentation
  • Liaising with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient delivery of works.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

This is a full-time, permanent role based at Milewater Road Depot, Belfast. Shift patterns operate on a 140-hour roster over four weeks, including weekend and night shifts. Overtime opportunities are available, with roster premiums paid for weekend and night working.

Essential experience of the Signalling Supervisor:
  • Significant signalling and telecommunications experience within the rail industry
  • Experience supervising or leading teams in a rail signalling environment
  • Experience working to railway safety, quality, and operational standards
  • Experience carrying out signalling testing, maintenance, installation, or commissioning activities.
Qualifications for the Signalling Supervisor:
  • Completed signalling technical training, including BS1, BS2, Installation and Maintenance, Railway Relay Interlocking and other relevant signalling competencies
  • SMTH and G110 Lead Tester competence with Module 5 certification
  • Personal Track Safety certification for Network Rail and/or Northern Ireland Railways
  • IRSE Licence at Signalling Team Leader level as a minimum, with progression towards Supervisor Licence desirable
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
