Job summary

Public House Group is opening a new general store in Charlbury and is recruiting a Shop Manager to lead the early trading setup. You will build a fully staffed, customer‑facing team and ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations ahead of opening later this year.

You will drive financial performance, monitor margins and costs, maintain safety and hygiene, and nurture a positive work culture. The role offers progression, training, and wellbeing benefits as part of our supportive hospitality group.

Qualifications

• Strong retail management experience, ideally within food and beverage.
• Financial management skills: P&L, forecasting, budgeting and costing.
• Experience leading busy teams and building a positive working environment.
• Excellent communication, honest and reliable.
• Flexible to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day shop operations and ensure full staffing.
• Foster open, positive team culture and address issues.
• Recruit, induct and develop the team for excellent service.
• Monitor sales, margins and costs against budget; act where needed.
• Oversee weekly and month-end reporting, invoices, deliveries, stock and wastage.

We're building a small team ahead of our opening later this year, with roles starting from mid-November.

What you'll be doing as a Shop Manager:

• Lead the day-to-day running of the shop, making sure it is fully staffed and ready to trade.
• Build an open, positive team culture where everyone feels comfortable raising issues directly with management.
• Recruit, induct and develop the team, so everyone has the skills to deliver exceptional and consistent service.
• Drive the shop’s financial performance by monitoring sales, margins and costs against budget, and taking action where needed.
• Manage weekly and month-end reporting, invoices, deliveries, stock and wastage, with training provided on our systems.
• Keep the shop safe, clean and compliant, including food hygiene, health and safety, fire safety and licensing requirements.

About you, our new Shop Manager:
