Job summary

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting an established energy and industrial operations business in Leicestershire to appoint a Shift Team Leader. This hands-on leadership role oversees 24/7 plant operations and leads a team of operational staff from both the control room and the plant floor.

You will monitor performance using DCS/HMI/SCADA systems, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and coordinate start-ups, shutdowns and maintenance with the aim of maximizing reliability and efficiency.

Shift Team Leader

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting an established energy and industrial operations business in the appointment of a Shift Team Leader at its facility in Leicestershire.

This is a hands on operational leadership position as a Shift Team Leader, responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient running of the plant throughout a 24/7 shift operation. You will lead a team of operational staff, monitor plant performance from the control room and site, and ensure the facility continues to meet its health, safety, environmental and operational requirements.

We are looking for an experienced plant operator or operational supervisor with a background in power generation, steam raising or a similar process environment, who is confident using DCS, HMI or SCADA systems and can provide effective leadership in a busy industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the shift team and maintain safe, reliable and efficient plant operation in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and control plant systems including boilers, turbines, pumps, water treatment equipment and associated auxiliary systems using DCS/HMI technology.
• Coordinate plant start ups, shutdowns, inspections and routine operational checks, identifying issues and escalating significant risks where required.
• Oversee minor reactive maintenance, operational stoppages and contractor activities, working closely with the maintenance function to support plant availability.
• Maintain accurate shift records, operational reports and performance data, while monitoring environmental compliance including Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).

Candidate Requirements

• Previous operational experience within power generation, steam raising or a comparable industrial or process environment.
• Experience working across both control room and plant floor environments, with practical understanding of industrial plant and equipment.
• Demonstrable experience operating DCS, HMI or SCADA control systems.
• Relevant engineering qualification such as an HNC, NVQ or equivalent, although substantial time served experience will also be considered.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to supervise, coach and develop operational personnel while maintaining high standards of safety and performance.
• Experience with Permit to Work systems would be beneficial, while IOSH, NEBOSH, BOAS or Electrical AP/SAP experience would also be advantageous. Training can be provided where appropriate.
