Job summary

Viridor Limited in Ardley is seeking an Auxiliary Plant Operator to join a shift team for 40 hours per week. You’ll ensure safe, efficient day-to-day operation of the plant across boiler house, turbine hall, and wider plant.

The role reports to the Shift Team Leader and requires prior experience in process operations, strong teamwork, and a proactive safety mindset. Salary and benefits accompany a bonus scheme; closing date 30/10/2026.

Qualifications

• Experience in a process, production or manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating mobile plant.
• Understanding of process or factory machinery.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine plant checks and monitor machinery to maintain optimum plant performance.
• Support the Shift Team with safe and efficient operation of the facility.
• Record plant/process changes and handover to the next shift.
• Operate mobile plant and machinery.
• Carry out frontline maintenance to maximise plant availability.
• Support planned/unplanned shutdowns and minimise downtime.
• Assist with loading and unloading operations.
• Operate weighbridge and complete required documentation.
• Supervise safe unloading of plant consumables.
• Safely operate an overhead travelling crane.
• Follow safe systems of work and Viridor procedures.
• Report accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Maintain high health, safety and environmental standards.
