This role is Monday to Friday with flexibility for out-of-hours emergencies, serving as the primary escalation point for incidents and coordinating with emergency services as needed.

Qualifications

• Proven shift leadership in 24/7 operating environments.
• IOSH Managing Safely certification or equivalent health & safety training.
• Relevant engineering qualifications (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, HNC or equivalent).
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and critical building systems.
• Strong decision-making under pressure with clear communication during handovers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise shift engineers, prioritising tasks and guidance.
• Conduct daily shift briefings and handovers to maintain continuity.
• Monitor live BMS, fire alarms, and critical systems; coordinate rapid fault responses.
• Manage reactive maintenance and planned preventive maintenance during shifts.
• Act as primary escalation for out-of-hours engineering emergencies; liaise with services and clients.
• Enforce health & safety compliance; conduct safety inspections and Permit to Work.
• Maintain shift logs and update work management systems in real time.
• Optimise system performance and manage shift resources including tools and equipment.

My client is seeking a hands-on Shift Manager to lead and supervise the shift engineering team, ensuring seamless 24/7 building operations in the London Area.

This role is Monday - Friday.

The Shift Manager will maintain operational continuity, manage immediate system availability during out-of-hours periods, and act as the primary escalation point for engineering emergencies.

Responsibilities include leading shift briefings, managing team attendance and performance, monitoring Building Management Systems (BMS) and critical system dashboards, coordinating emergency responses, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

The role demands strong decision-making skills under pressure, effective communication during shift handovers, and the ability to manage multiple incidents simultaneously.

The successful candidate will foster team cohesion, deliver quality control on maintenance works, and maintain accurate technical documentation and shift logs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise shift engineers, providing technical guidance and prioritising tasks.
• Conduct daily shift briefings and handovers to ensure operational continuity.

• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and critical building systems.
• Emergency response coordination and risk assessment capabilities.
• Proficient in using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., Corrigo, Maximo).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for shift logs and incident reporting.
• Valid IOSH Managing Safely certification and thorough health & safety knowledge.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and on-call duties.
