Job description

Details of the Engineering Shift Leader

As the post holder, you will be expected to have an extensive understanding of Critical Facilities/Data Centre infrastructure (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing & associated assets). As the lead member of the engineering shift team, you will be responsible for effective inspection, operation, and maintenance of all associated assets within the critical facility, with a primary focus on risk management and service quality enhancement through leadership.

You will ensure the conduct of personnel under your control is safe, professional, and conscientious. You will attend site meetings with the client and on behalf of the client as required. You will promote a Safety-First culture, lead by example, and ensure compliance with safe systems of work and regulations.

Key Tasks of the Engineering Shift Lead

  1. Supervise and support the site-based engineering team, including MEP responsibilities.
  2. Operate all systems within the facility effectively, including MV Switching Operations, and recommend improvements.
  3. Manage the operation of all building systems and ensure statutory compliance.
  4. Plan and support vendor works, ensuring change management approval and quality control.
  5. Sign off vendor work, inspect quality, and communicate recommendations.
  6. Provide backup for emergency cover, possibly involving shift work.
  7. Ensure SLA compliance and monitor work orders via the Corrigo CMMS system.
  8. Participate in meetings, report on system availability, and complete shift handover reports.
  9. Manage critical spares, stock levels, and procurement.
  10. Report incidents and near misses, escalate equipment issues, and review vendor reports.
  11. Develop site-specific SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs.
  12. Assist in infrastructure training and engineer development.
  13. Contribute to safety improvements and ensure legislative updates are communicated.
  14. Escalate vendor performance issues and maintain resource levels.
  15. Liaise with supply chain for parts and support team training and development.
  16. Conduct quality assurance audits and ensure compliance with responsibilities.

Personal Specification

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Critical Environments like Data Centres.
  • HV Authorised Person with HV System experience.
  • Electrical/Mechanical HNC or HND, with apprenticeship background.
  • C&G Pts. 1 & 2, or equivalent.
  • 17th Edition IEE Wiring and Installation (18th Edition training preferred).
  • C&G 2391 testing and inspection, BS 7671 certification.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to undergo training, including HV certification.
  • Proactive, diligent, honest, punctual, and capable of following instructions.
