Engineering Shift Leader
Details of the Engineering Shift Leader

As the post holder, you will be expected to have extensive knowledge of Critical Facilities/Data Centre infrastructure (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing & associated assets). You will be the lead member of the engineering shift team, responsible for inspection, operation, and maintenance of all assets within the critical facility, focusing on risk management and enhancing service quality through effective leadership.

You will ensure that personnel under your control behave safely, professionally, and conscientiously. You will attend site meetings with or on behalf of the client as required, promoting a Safety-First culture and ensuring compliance with safe systems of work.

Key Tasks of the Engineering Shift Lead
  • Supervise and support the site-based engineering team, including internal and MEP responsibilities.
  • Operate all systems within the facility effectively, including MV Switching Operations, and recommend improvements with technical reports.
  • Manage the operation of all building systems and assets in compliance with regulations.
  • Plan and support vendor works, ensuring change management approval for critical tasks.
  • Inspect vendor work, communicate recommendations, and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Provide backup for emergency relief, possibly requiring shift work.
  • Ensure compliance with SLAs and manage CMMS system tasks accurately within SLA.
  • Participate in meetings, contribute to risk reporting, and complete shift handover reports.
  • Manage critical spares, report incidents, and escalate equipment issues promptly.
  • Review vendor reports, develop SOPs, and contribute to infrastructure training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Escalate vendor performance issues and ensure team is updated on technical and legislative changes.
  • Maintain staffing levels, liaise with supply chain, and promote a culture of personal development and training.
  • Audit work quality, validate standards, and adhere to MEP responsibilities.
Personal Specification:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Critical Environments such as Data Centres or Banking HQ.
  • HV Authorized Person with experience in HV systems.
  • Electrical/Mechanical Engineering HNC or HND, with apprenticeship background.
  • C&G Pts. 1 & 2, or equivalent; 17th Edition IEE (preferably 18th Edition).
  • C&G 2391 testing and inspection, BS 7671 certification.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Willingness to undergo training, including HV Authorized Person training.
  • Ability to follow instructions, demonstrate proactivity, and uphold integrity and punctuality.
