Job summary

JDR Recruitment is seeking a Shift Engineer (Multi-Skilled) in Bridgwater to maintain PET extrusion and related production lines. The role is hands-on, 12‑hour shifts on a 4 on/4 off cycle, and requires electrical and mechanical fault-finding expertise for safe plant operation.

You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, support preventative maintenance, and drive reliability improvements while collaborating with production and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Multiskilled engineer with mechanical and electrical fault-finding experience.
• Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, plastics, packaging or process industries.
• Able to read engineering drawings and use CMMS for maintenance tasks.
• Strong fault diagnosis and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure during breakdowns.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line response to equipment breakdowns across PET extrusion and related systems.
• Diagnose, test, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Carry out reactive maintenance, running repairs and root cause analysis to minimise downtime.
• Complete planned preventive maintenance and update CMMS records.
• Support production start-ups, shutdowns and line optimisation.
• Work with OEMs and external suppliers to resolve technical issues.
• Apply problem-solving tools like 5 Why and RCA to eliminate recurring failures.
