Job summary

James Cropper seeks a maintenance engineer to perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance across the mill. The role operates on a 12‑hour shift cycle (6am–6pm and 6pm–6am) aligned with production needs and requires hands-on fault diagnosis, rapid problem solving and safe hand‑over of work.

You will work within a global materials and paper products environment, ensuring safety, productivity and quality while supporting facilities for critical activities.

Qualifications

• HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent.
• Relevant professional experience in manufacturing.
• Broad knowledge of plant, equipment and systems mill-wide, and ability to work to technical specs.
• Awareness of engineering and health and safety legislation and requirements.
• Excellent communication skills to develop stakeholder relationships at various levels.
• Ability to interpret processes, procedures, manuals and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Provide fault diagnosis, solutions and repair in machinery and plant areas; ensure run‑ability and safety.
• Complete work issued by the PPM system or team leader and prioritise unplanned work.
• Comprehensively record all necessary information.
• Use spare parts cost‑effectively and manage stores inventory.
• Be a member of fire and lone worker emergency response teams as required.
• Implement improvements to safety, housekeeping, productivity and quality.
• Ensure safe hand‑over of maintenance work carried out.
• Support Facilities and other business functions for critical activities.

The Opportunity

To provide effective and efficient planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance to the mill operations to minimise losses due to any engineering causes.

Working on a shift basis, aligned with production needs

Key Accountabilities

• Provides fault diagnosis, solutions and repair in /on areas of machinery and plant such as machinery breakdown; run ability and safety related to maintenance work.ie provides any engineering resources for the continued operation of the mill
• Complete work as issued by the PPM system or team leader and prioritises unplanned work.
• Comprehensive recording of all necessary information
• Uses spare machine parts cost-effectively and ensures they are all booked in /out of stores.
• Is a member of the fire and lone worker emergency response teams as and when required and carries out the respective team duties.
• Implementing improvements to:
• Safety, housekeeping and workplace organisation
• Productivity
• Quality
• Accountable for the safe hand-over of any maintenance work carried out.
• Support of other business functions (IE Facilities) for business-critical activities

This is a shift role working 12 hour shifts and a 5 shift rotation ( 6am - 6pm and 6pm - 6am) This will be discussed further with you at screening stage

• HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent
• Relevant professional experience in manufacturing
• Broad knowledge of all plant, equipment, systems mill-wide, engineering equipment and works to technical specifications and information.
• Awareness of engineering and health and safety legislation and requirements
• Fantastic communication skills to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships at various levels
• Ability to interpretate and understand of processes, procedures, technical manuals and drawings.
