Job summary

Hunter Selection is seeking a Shift Engineer in Stevenage to maintain high‑speed production and packaging lines. The role covers electrical and mechanical fault finding, maintenance planning, and improvement projects, with a focus on PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems.

The package includes a £52,000 salary, 12‑hour shifts (2 days / 2 nights / 4 off) and a robust benefits scheme. You will work within a fast‑paced FMCG environment requiring multi‑skilled engineering capability.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 engineering or maintenance minimum.
• Ideally HNC / HND.
• Experience in fast-paced FMCG manufacturing.
• Strong electrical and mechanical problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of high‑speed production & packaging machinery.
• Work on control panels, HMIs, PLCs, SCADA Systems.
• Electrical & mechanical fault finding, repairs and improvements.
• Engage in continuous improvement projects.
• Deal with motors, VSDs, servo drives, pneumatics, gearboxes and bearings.
• Mechanical fabrication, fitting and welding.

Role & responsibilities of a Shift Engineer:

• Carry out planned preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance of all high-speed production & packaging machinery
• Working on control panels, HMi's, PLC's, SCADA Systems
• Electrical & mechanical fault finding, problem solving and repairs
• Continuous improvement projects
• Dealing with motors, VSD's, servo drives, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, inverters
• Mechanical fabrication, fitting, welding

Knowledge, skills & experience need to be a Shift Engineer:

• Multi skilled engineer - ideally electrically biased
• NVQ Level 3 engineering or maintenance minimum
• Ideally HNC / HND qualified
• Must have worked in some form of fast-paced / FMCG manufacturing industry
• Strong electrical & mechanical problem solving skills
• Knowledge of PLC's, automation & control systems, HMi's
• Worked on motors, inverters, VSD's, sensors, switches, pneumatics, gearboxes
