Job summary

Wagstaff Recruitment is seeking an electrically biased Shift Engineer to join a leading food manufacturer in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. You will carry out planned, predictive and breakdown maintenance on high‑speed production and packaging machinery.

The role operates 12‑hour shifts (2 days / 2 nights / 4 off) with a salary of £51,000–£52,000 per year plus pension, life assurance and other benefits. Applicants should have NVQ Level 3 in engineering or maintenance and ideally an HNC/HND.

Qualifications

• Electrical & mechanical problem-solving skills.
• Experience in fast-paced FMCG manufacturing.
• Knowledge of PLCs, automation & control systems.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance of high-speed production & packaging machinery.
• Work on control panels, HMIs, PLCs, SCADA systems.
• Electrical & mechanical fault finding, problem solving and repairs.
• Contribute to continuous improvement projects.
• Deal with motors, VSDs, servo drives, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, inverters.
• Mechanical fabrication, fitting, welding.

Do you want to work for a leading food manufacturers that is going through a lot of progressive growth with the UK’s supermarkets. Due to expansion within the team, they are looking for an electrical biased shift engineer to join.

Role & responsibilities of a Shift Engineer:

• Carry out planned preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance of all high-speed production & packaging machinery
• Working on control panels, HMi’s, PLC’s, SCADA Systems
• Electrical & mechanical fault finding, problem solving and repairs
• Continuous improvement projects
• Dealing with motors, VSD’s, servo drives, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, inverters
• Mechanical fabrication, fitting, welding

Knowledge, skills & experience need to be a Shift Engineer:

• Multi skilled engineer – ideally electrically biased
• NVQ Level 3 engineering or maintenance minimum
• Ideally HNC / HND qualified
• Must have worked in some form of fast-paced / FMCG manufacturing industry
• Strong electrical & mechanical problem solving skills
• Knowledge of PLC’s, automation & control systems, HMi’s
• Worked on motors, inverters, VSD’s, sensors, switches, pneumatics, gearboxes
