Job summary

Thompsons Commercials is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to join our team at the UK's largest Renault Truck dealership. You will carry out maintenance, repairs and diagnostics to keep fleets safe and on the road.

We offer a 4 on / 4 off pattern with no night shifts, midweek hours 10:00am–10:00pm and weekend hours 6:00am–6:00pm, plus up to £24 per hour and optional overtime.

Qualifications

• Experience as an HGV Technician or similar role.
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
• Experience using modern workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and repairs on HGVs.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Perform inspections in line with DVSA and manufacturer standards.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
• Repair, assemble and replace vehicle components; welding when required.
• Keep accurate job cards and maintenance records; uphold safety standards.

The Role

As an HGV Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring our customers' fleets remain safe, compliant, and operational.Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on HGVs
• Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
• Performing inspections in line with DVSA and manufacturer standards
• Using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues efficiently
• Repairing, assembling, and replacing vehicle components
• Welding and fabrication work when required
• Completing job cards and maintenance records accurately
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and workmanship
• Delivering excellent customer service and technical support

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician, or similar role
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
• Experience using modern workshop tools and diagnostic equipment
• Welding and fabrication experience (desirable)
• A proactive, problem-solving approach
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
• The ability to work independently and as part of a professional team
