What you'll do

Your aim is to prevent streams and watercourses from becoming polluted. You will do this by inspecting surface water outfalls and sewers to identify misconnected drainage, while also proving and recording any misconnections identified.

You will have a keen focus on the health and safety of yourself, your colleagues, contractors and the general public.

Day to day, you will follow up on private misconnections to ensure correction, investigate reported incidents and work alongside third parties to investigate pollutions or unauthorised discharges.

You will be liaising with the property owners to give advice where possible and produce paper/electronic forms to correct any misconnections.

What you'll need

To succeed in this role, you will be a confident, self-motivated individual who is an effective team worker with excellent public liaison skills, as well as having a positive work ethic to see the job through until completion.

You will also have:

  • an understanding of sewerage networks and drainage
  • good IT knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel and Teams
  • the ability to think methodically and break down a problem into workable sections
  • GCSEs at grades C or 5 in English and maths
  • the ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
  • a can-do attitude and the willingness to get stuck in
  • the ability to work around sewage and lift manholes safely (full PPE will be provided)
  • experience with handling customer expectations and reactions.

Due to the travel requirements for this role, holding a valid driving licence is essential. A company vehicle will be provided.

What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • A car allowance.
  • Performance-related bonus.
  • Private healthcare.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
