Job summary

Vehicle Technician role in Reading for a Level 3 qualified technician, or Level 2 with 3+ years’ experience, with a leading UK automotive group. Permanent/full-time, 45 hours per week, rota weekends.

Salary up to £37,285 base plus bonus and overtime (OTE £48,250+). Benefits include 25 days’ leave, pension, life assurance, tool insurance, and employee discounts, with dedicated EV/hybrid training for future tech requirements.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or IMI/City & Guilds).
• Hands-on workshop experience, ideally in franchised dealership environment.
• EV and hybrid technology training and diagnostics are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Carry out vehicle servicing including oil changes, filters, and updates.
• Diagnose and repair faults across braking, steering, suspension, and engine systems.
• Perform electronic vehicle health checks (eVHCs) and record findings.
• Document parts requirements on digital job cards with clarity.
• Complete warranty repairs following factory protocols and timeframes.
• Maintain workshop productivity to meet efficiency and first-time fix targets.

Skills and experience

Job responsibilities for the Vehicle Technician role

• Carry out comprehensive vehicle servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, and component updates, in line with manufacturer standards.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults across braking, steering, suspension, and basic engine systems.
• Complete thorough Electronic Vehicle Health Checks (eVHCs) to identify and record any work required.
• Record accurate technical findings and parts requirements clearly on digital job cards.
• Complete standard warranty repairs in line with factory protocols and agreed timeframes.
• Maintain high levels of workshop productivity to meet individual efficiency and first-time fix targets.
