Job summary

A leading digital consultancy is seeking experienced Service Designers to deliver user-centred digital services across high-profile public sector programmes in the UK. The role involves planning, preparing and delivering service design activities, leading teams to analyse services, and producing service maps and blueprints. Successful candidates will have proven experience in service design, an understanding of GDS standards, and excellent communication skills. Initial 6-month contract with competitive day rates between £500–£550 and opportunities for extensions.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working as a Service Designer within UK public sector or large, complex organisations.
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design principles and GDS standards.
  • Demonstrable experience producing service blueprints and journey maps.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver service design activities across all phases of the service lifecycle.
  • Lead teams to analyse end-to-end services and build deep empathy with service users.
  • Identify and apply appropriate service design methods and produce service maps.

Workstream 1: Leeds or London (Stratford) – 2 days per week on‑site, remainder remote

Workstream 2: Manchester – 1 day per week on‑site, remainder remote

Contract: Initial 6‑month contract (extensions likely)

Day Rate: £500‑£550/day (Inside IR35)

These roles offer the opportunity to work on complex, large‑scale services, collaborating within multidisciplinary Agile teams to improve outcomes for users and organisations alike.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver service design activities across all phases of the service lifecycle
  • Lead teams to analyse end‑to‑end services and build deep empathy with service users
  • Identify and apply appropriate service design methods, including service mapping, blueprinting, and taxonomy development
  • Produce clear, high‑quality service maps and blueprints to inform delivery and decision‑making
  • Provide strategic service design input and contribute to a collaborative community of practice
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience working as a Service Designer within UK public sector or large, complex organisations
  • Strong understanding of user‑centred design principles and GDS standards
  • Demonstrable experience producing service blueprints, journey maps, and supporting design artefacts
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Experience working within Agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
