Job summary

Accenture in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Service Designer for a hybrid role. You will work on-site at the Cobalt Business Park office for a minimum of 3 days per week to shape end-to-end service experiences for clients.

You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, User Researchers and multidisciplinary teams to uncover needs, map journeys, and create service blueprints. You’ll promote user-centred design, accessibility and sustainable practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing end-to-end services and systems.
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design practices.
  • Experience advocating for accessible and inclusive design.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and negotiate design decisions.
  • Familiarity with design systems, libraries and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and identify user needs.
  • Support User Researchers in gathering insights to inform design decisions.
  • Champion user-centred design and communicate the value of design, including accessibility and sustainability.
  • Create service blueprints and journey maps to visualise end-to-end experiences.
  • Facilitate workshops with stakeholders and delivery teams to maintain alignment and gather insights.
  • Ensure adherence to client design standards, systems and best practices.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams including Interaction Designers, Researchers, Content Designers, Developers, and Analysts.
  • Present work and rationale to internal teams and client stakeholders.
  • Use data and testing to iterate on designs and validate hypotheses.

Job description

Service Designer Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK Hybrid Working: Please note - This role will require you to work from our Newcastle, Cobalt Business Park office for a minimum of 3 days per week. Note: The above information relates to a specific client requirement.


As a team: As a service designer you’d be responsible for crafting the complete end-to-end experience of a service. Your role would be to optimise and enhance services to ensure they not only meet the needs of users but also align with the broader goals of the business. Service designers possess deep knowledge of design principles and systems, with a strong focus on both digital and offline channels. You would work collaboratively with various teams to ensure everyone is aligned and working toward a common vision. By identifying pain points and opportunities, you’d define and refine services to ensure a seamless and effective experience for the user.


As a Service Designer, you will:


  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and identify user needs.

  • Support User Researchers in gathering insights from users to inform design decisions.

  • Champion user-centred design practices and effectively communicate the value of design - emphasising inclusivity, accessibility, and environmental sustainability.

  • Create service blueprints and user journey maps to visualise the end-to-end experience and solve complex problems.

  • Facilitate workshops with stakeholders and delivery teams to maintain alignment, encourage engagement, and gather insights.

  • Ensure adherence to the client’s design standards, systems, and best practices.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including Interaction Designers, User Researchers, Content Designers, Developers, and Performance Analysts.

  • Confidently present work and rationale to both internal teams and client stakeholders.

  • Use evidence and data to iterate on designs, form hypotheses, and validate them through testing.


The following skills and experience are essential for this role:


  • Relevant experience as a Service Designer or similar field

  • Working with the Government Digital Service (GDS) design principals

  • Experience advocating for User-Centred Design

  • Experience negotiating with and influencing senior stakeholders

  • Working with Design systems/libraries, style guides and existing patterns/guidelines


Set yourself apart:


  • Working in an Agile or similar multidisciplinary environment

  • Using HTML, Markdown, Nunjucks or other prototyping languages

  • Strong accessibility knowledge

  • Leading a team or mentoring junior designers
