Service Designer - Consultant (SC cleared)

Akkodis is currently partnering with a leading service provider to recruit an experienced Service Designer passionate about user-centred design, critical thinking, problem solving, and designing and building digital services and products.

This is a hybrid role (based in London, Manchester, or Glasgow) with occasional travel to client sites. Candidates must hold current security clearance.

The Role

As a Service Designer, you will champion inclusive design practices throughout project lifecycles, ensuring solutions are accessible to as many users as possible. Your responsibilities include engaging with diverse user research, applying accessibility guidelines and legislation, and advocating for inclusive design principles in your deliverables.

The Responsibilities

• Maximise value from service design from inception to real-life application.
• Support clients through the end-to-end service design process to develop innovative products and services, from ideation to solution build and testing.
• Champion user-centricity by applying tools and methods to embed design thinking.
• Collaborate on new ideas and work with solution teams to design and develop innovative products and services.
• Utilise current and emerging trends to improve existing services and introduce innovative, industry-first experiences, influencing service managers, user researchers, UI/UX designers, and programme directors.

The Requirements

• Proven experience in service design processes, working autonomously with minimal support.
• Experience with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and design principles.
• Ability to create service design artefacts such as user journeys, personas, service blueprints, and concepts.
• Ability to identify accessibility barriers for complex user groups.
• Experience facilitating workshops, design sprints, and ideation sessions.
• Ability to visualise complex services for diverse audiences.
• Strong experience working in an agile (scrum) environment within cross-functional teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, balancing diverse views during the design process.
• Advocacy for user-centricity, translating user stories into effective design approaches and engaging with users meaningfully.
