Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Band 5 or 6 Registered Nurse to lead a busy ward, delivering patient-centred care with strong clinical leadership and organisational skills.

You will coordinate day-to-day ward operations, supervise junior staff, mentor students, support patient flow and safety, and contribute to service improvement while upholding NHS values and a culture of continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for older people with frailty, dementia, and complex needs.
• Evidence of leadership and the ability to coordinate shifts and manage clinical areas.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and make sound clinical decisions.
• Competent in care planning, assessment, and discharge processes.
• Good IT and documentation skills.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, risk management, and patient safety principles.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on the Ward, coordinating the care by the clinical team.
• Accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information, promptly report changes and take remedial action.
• Act as a resource, providing information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.
• Maintain accurate records reflecting patient condition and treatment.
• Keep patients and relatives updated with information in an understandable way.
• Ensure evidence-based practice and contribute to policies and protocols.
• Uphold high standards of nursing care and manage the clinical workload.
• Adjust staffing levels to meet demand and assist the ward/charge nurse/manager.
