Job summary

The University of Manchester is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join the Virtualisation Engineering team. You will help deliver automation and VMWARE integrations within the Education sector, collaborating with developers, architects and colleagues in Research.

You will lead delivery of enterprise infrastructure and hybrid platforms, guide the build of self-service infrastructure, and participate in training and career development through the University's learning plans.

Qualifications

• Experience administering VMware or OpenStack in hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Linux and Windows Server administration experience.
• Scripting with PowerShell, Python or Bash.
• IaC with Terraform/OpenTofu and Ansible.
• Knowledge of enterprise virtualization, storage, networking.
• Experience with code repositories (Git, etc.).
• Understanding of security and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Define, deliver and support enterprise infrastructure and hybrid platforms in complex environments.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver automation and VMWARE projects.
• Develop self-service infrastructure for Research initiatives and accelerate ideation to deployment.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and contribute to training plans.
