Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company in City of London seeks an experienced underwriter to manage a portfolio of moderate to complex accounts, negotiate terms, and drive profitability. You will partner with brokers, assess risks, and use technology to quote and bind risk efficiently.

The ideal candidate will bring strong underwriting experience, analytical thinking, and leadership to mentor junior underwriters while achieving retention and growth targets. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

• Strong experience of underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis, or risk assessment experience.
• Deep knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
• Analytical/Critical thinking with ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyse information to align with risk appetite.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate with brokers.
• Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
• Experience coaching and mentoring others.
• Knowledge of industry/competitor analysis and project management.

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business of moderate to complex accounts across our products.
• Underwrite and negotiate moderate to complex risks to minimise risk and maximise profitability, including MTAs.
• Proactively manage your portfolio to achieve KPIs and target new business and retention.
• Identify and act on risk characteristics identified through Portfolio Management.
• Identify opportunities to write additional lines of business using product knowledge and risk appetite.
• Utilise technology platforms to quote and bind risk efficiently.
• Lead Underwriting Reviews for policies or portfolios and manage action points.
• Cultivate relationships with internal partners to identify cross-selling opportunities.
• Maintain relationships with brokers by phone, email, and other channels to market Travelers products and write/retain accounts.
• Travel to meetings as required.
• Develop retention plans and support sales teams to win business in line with team plans.
• Train and mentor less experienced underwriters.
