Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join the NUH team. The role focuses on technically strong underwriting and training junior staff, with a remit to manage renewals and new business within authority levels while supporting brokers.

You will balance risk selection with business objectives, supervise case work, and collaborate across offices to maintain high underwriting standards and a strong national presence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' underwriting experience.
• Broker account development and management experience.
• Track record of developing and maintaining trading relationships.
• Experience across functions and matrix organisations.
• Consistently achieves goals in a structured, organised manner.

Responsibilities

• Work with management to ensure cases are managed effectively and resources are sufficient.
• Maintain oversight of product retention, rate and underwriting strategies.
• Manage renewal and new business cases within authority.
• Refer cases above authority levels and follow procedures.
• Deliver training and technical guidance to underwriting staff.
• Enhance the company's presence by building relationships with key brokers.
• Feed back technical and market intelligence to the NUH Underwriting Manager.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant technical issues.
• Collaborate with regional offices, claims and survey teams.
• Conduct regular case reviews to ensure standards are followed.
