Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director or Principal Consultant to join our Development Planning and Management Team in the South East, with hybrid work options from London, St Albans, or Birmingham. You will lead on transport planning for a key client, reviewing planning documentation and coordinating specialist input to safeguard SRN performance.

You will mentor and develop a high-performing team, engage with stakeholders, and drive delivery of complex transport planning projects across the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Spatial/Urban Planning, or a related field.
• Membership (ideally Chartered) of a professional body such as CIHT, TPS or CILT.
• Extensive post-graduate experience in transport planning.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities with a proven track record in leading, developing and mentoring individuals and teams.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results.
• Comprehensive knowledge of transport planning principles, policies, and regulations in the UK.
• Experience in transport modelling (strategic and local).
• Proficiency in commonly used transport planning tools and software.

Responsibilities

• Provide development management advice to protect operation, safety and performance of the SRN.
• Lead and mentor a team of transport planners and consultants.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders and manage complex transport planning documents.
• Contribute to evidence for planning appeals, inquiries and examinations.
• Review planning application documentation and coordinate advice from specialists.
