Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Senior Transport Planner to deliver transport planning services across England. You will apply analytical skills to identify network issues, model strategic interventions, and appraise options for value for money.

The role is flexible in location with travel between office sites; part‑time and flexible working arrangements are welcomed. You will work in a team that covers a broad range of transport planning tasks and advisory services.

Qualifications

• MSc or equivalent in Transport Planning or related field.
• Experience with strategic transport models and appraisal methods.
• Strong analytical and coding skills (Python) are advantageous.
• Knowledge of datasets underpinning strategic modelling (GPS/mobile data).

Responsibilities

• Provide transport planning analysis and research for schemes.
• Develop and apply strategic modelling and appraisal tools.
• Manage analytical delivery and assurance for transport projects.
• Engage with stakeholders including DfT, sponsors, and project managers.
