Overview
We're seeking a Transport Manager to join our team in Hoddesdon, working on our Sainsbury's contract. In this role, you'll lead transport and fleet change projects, ensuring legal compliance and safe operations at the depot. You will manage compliance activities across Transport, Fleet, and MHE, fostering an inclusive team culture. Your leadership will build trust, drive performance, and meet legal, KPI, and budgetary goals.

How will you contribute?
- Lead transport change projects supporting design and implementation.
- Collaborate with Strategy and Change teams on transport projects, relaying updates to the depot.
- Engage in regular dialogue to understand upcoming changes impacting the depot and suggest process improvements.
- Work with the Head of Transport and Central Planning to identify transport optimisation opportunities, balancing service and cost.
- Manage depot compliance; develop action plans for areas of non-compliance in partnership with relevant departments.
- Stay updated on Transport and Fleet legislative requirements and review processes for operational adherence.
- Support compliance implementation with Central Teams.
Accountabilities include:
- Operational process compliance
- Fleet compliance
- MHE compliance
- Transport compliance
- Work with Driver Trainers to ensure training standards adherence and oversee RTITB Driver Trainers' compliance
- Ensure adherence to LLCS routes
- Present on compliance risks, concerns, or changes
- Collaborate with H&S team on overlaps such as audits and investigations
- Coordinate Logistics UK audits, providing information and support to maintain/improve compliance standards
- Manage day-to-day people management for direct reports
- Handle Union relationships regarding Transport and Fleet, ER/IR strategies
- Ensure customer needs are central in decision-making, balancing depot and store requirements
What will you bring?
- CPC certificate
- Practical knowledge and experience in Logistics Transport/Fleet/MHE roles
- Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and processes, including Health & Safety, Trade Union legislation, Employment Law
- Interest in ongoing professional development and current best practices
- Data analysis skills
- Ability to make independent decisions
- Positive leadership in change management
- Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills, with confidence to challenge and influence
- Awareness of working in a Unionised environment
- Knowledge of transport & fleet systems (e.g., scheduling tools, Tachomaster)
- Experience in end-to-end project management
