Job summary

Fortius Clinic seeks a Surgical Services Manager – Clinical Operations to provide senior operational and clinical leadership across the Operating Theatre Department and Enhanced Care Unit (ECU). You will work with the Surgical Services Manager – Quality, Resus & ECU to ensure safe, efficient delivery of surgical services and patient pathways.

Qualifications

• Registered healthcare professional with current NMC or HCPC registration.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
• Significant post-registration experience within operating theatre or peri-operative environment.
• Substantial experience in a senior clinical or operational leadership role.
• Demonstrable experience of leading and managing a multidisciplinary clinical team.
• Workforce planning, including staffing, skill mix, recruitment and retention.
• Experience of managing performance and supporting staff through organisational policies and processes.
• Experience of managing clinical and operational risk and contributing to clinical governance.
• Experience of service development, service improvement and implementing change within healthcare.
• Demonstrable experience of using performance data to identify trends, manage variances and drive improvement.
• Experience of working collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
• Strong understanding of theatre operations, patient flow, capacity, utilisation and safe staffing.
• Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and make sound decisions.
• Demonstrable ability to work collaboratively as part of a shared leadership model, including effective cross-cover for a peer manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior operational and clinical leadership across the Operating Theatre Department and ECU.
• Jointly manage performance, quality, patient safety, workforce and operational delivery with peers.
• Drive continuous improvement to optimise patient pathways and experience.
• Lead cross‑functional collaboration with surgeons, anaesthetists, peri-operative teams and clinical leads.
• Ensure effective handover, continuity of leadership and shared decision‑making across the service.
• Develop strategic planning, governance, financial management and risk management within the theatre and ECU.
• Provide escalation, support and guidance on operational matters toExecutive leadership.
• Maintain workforce deployment, skill mix and staffing appropriate to service requirements.
• Promote a patient-centric culture and maintain high standards of clinical governance and safety.
