Job summary

BSI Group in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Test Engineer to lead testing across electrical/electronic products, ensure quality and timeliness, and develop staff with technical guidance.

You will liaise with clients, provide technical support, and conduct on-site visits as required, while maintaining ISO 17025 compliance and producing clear test reports.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Electrical/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 is essential.
• Experience assessing products to safety standards (60335, 60598).
• Strong communication and report-writing skills.
• Customer-focused approach and ability to work under time pressure.
• Good computer literacy (MS Office).
• Lean familiarity advantageous.
• Able to work independently or in a team to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

Job description

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will undertake testing activities across a diverse range of electrical and electronic products, ensuring work is delivered to the required quality level, standards, and timescales. You conduct testing to evaluate product safety, performance, efficiency and fitness for purpose, as well as providing clear, accurate test reports., As a senior test engineer, you will also play a key role in supporting quotations and project delivery, reviewing standards and procedures, and developing the skills and knowledge of colleagues through technical guidance and training.,

• To liaise with clients, and advise on the status of work to facilitate premier customer service & on-time delivery on all work and projects.
• Respond to customer queries and provide technical support.
• Develop technical skills to enhance own skills & ability to carry out testing work across a wide variety of laboratories, equipment and standards or client bespoke requirements.
• Conduct client visits (on-site) as required.
• Operate in line with quality and safety procedures to ensure compliance with the organisations and legislative requirements and the requirements of ISO 17025
• Carry out test work
• Test in line with standards, procedures or client needs.
• Maintain traceable records & results
• Produce quality test reports in a timely manner or project status reports as requested
• Liaise with calibration department on the maintenance and use of the correct equipment to carry out testing.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the Lab, office with all electronics data storage
• Report and escalated issues in testing which impact performance or quality of results.
• Support local and global teams to drive growth & improvement for PC business globally.
• Undertake quotation work and lead generation for respective Laboratory
• Work as project lead or closely support project leader as required
• Use experience as a technical expert, taking lead to review standards, writing procedures and similar work in your area as a subject matter expert.
• Train and develop others in the team, acting as a role model to the direct Lab team.
• Perform internal audits between Laboratories
• Deputise for Team Leader during absence, holiday, meetings or other busy periods

A HNC/HND in an Electrical/Engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience in a test laboratory environment.

• Knowledge and understanding of ISO 17025 is essential.
• Demonstrated competence in the assessment of products to safety standards (e.g 60335 series - Household Appliances, 60598 series - Lighting/Luminaires).
• Good communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise reports
• Positive customer focused approach to work and communication with colleagues
• Good level of computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Office or equivalent.
• Excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Knowledge or familiarity of Lean culture and tools is advantageous.
• Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team, to tight time scales
