Job summary

Randburg, Gauteng-based Lead Telecommunications Infrastructure Engineer position seeks an experienced leader to oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the core telecom network. You will lead a team of engineers, ensuring scalable, reliable and secure infrastructure with hybrid on-site and remote work flexibility.

The role requires deep expertise in IP networking, MPLS, BGP, and fiber optics, plus strong project management and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• 7+ years in telecommunications infrastructure engineering with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Deep understanding of core network technologies including IP networking, MPLS, BGP and fiber optics.
• Proven experience with large-scale network design, deployment and management.
• Expertise in network security principles and implementation.
• Strong leadership, team management, and project management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of telecommunications infrastructure engineers.
• Oversee the design, development, and implementation of scalable and resilient network infrastructure.
• Manage the deployment and integration of new telecommunications technologies and services.
• Ensure the security, performance, and availability of the network infrastructure.
• Develop and enforce infrastructure standards, policies, and best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide technical leadership during outages.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure strategy with business needs.
• Conduct performance analysis, capacity planning, and technology assessments.
• Manage vendor relationships and oversee procurement of network equipment and services.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the infrastructure engineering team.
