Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Senior Technician to work within our Public Protection & Neighbourhoods team. Full Time and Part Time hours will be considered.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we deliver new Additional and Selective licensing schemes. We are committed to supporting residents and ensuring everyone has a safe, well-maintained home.

The team handles a wide range of housing-related issues, including housing standards, noise and anti-social behaviour, public health nuisances, and property licensing.

What you will be doing:
  • Assisting the team in their duties under the Housing Act 2004 and other relevant legislation.
  • Regulating private rented properties subject to HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) and Selective Licensing.
  • Investigating complaints related to property disrepair, noise, anti-social behaviour, and public health nuisances.
  • Taking informal and formal enforcement actions, including legal notices and criminal prosecutions.
  • Using intelligence to target landlords and letting agents of concern.

What we are looking for:
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of enforcement.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills with members of the public, including tenants, landlords, and managing agents.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage your workload to meet team objectives.
  • A good understanding of the regulatory framework, guidance, and best practices related to Housing Standards, noise, anti-social behaviour, HMO, and Selective Licensing.
  • A proven ability to deliver quality services.

You will work flexibly from home and at Newcastle Civic Centre. Equipment such as a laptop will be provided, with opportunities to meet colleagues regularly.
