Job summary

Associated British Ports (ABP) is seeking a senior Training Lead to unite and drive all elements of technical training across safety, engineering, marine, and plant operations. You will design competency frameworks, assess technical competence, and implement scalable training aligned to ABP standards and future workforce needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading technical or safety training in a complex, safety-critical or operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, compliance and accreditation requirements for safety-critical training.
  • Experience developing technical competency frameworks and assessing competence in technical functions.
  • Experience deploying learning technologies (LMS, digital learning) to support scalable training delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder and project management skills to drive value across a matrixed, technical organisation.
  • Proven track record of leading and growing a high-performing training team.
  • Desirable: NEBOSH qualification and/or L&D/CIPD qualification.

  • Monitor performance, compliance and competence data to drive continuous improvement.

You will develop technical competency frameworks and training pathways, assess competence in technical functions, and design and deliver the technology and systems that support scalable, accredited training aligned to ABP standards, operational risk and future workforce needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

Skills and Experiences
  • Proven track record of building and delivering technical and/or health and safety training in a complex, safety-critical or operational environment
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, compliance and accreditation requirements for safety-critical and equipment-operation training
  • Experience developing technical competency frameworks and assessing competence in technical functions
  • Experience deploying learning technology and systems (e.g. LMS, digital learning) to support scalable training delivery
  • Strong stakeholder and project management skills to drive value across a matrixed, technical organisation
  • Proven track record of leading and growing a high-performing team
  • Desirable: relevant health and safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH) and/or L&D / TAP / CIPD qualification
