Job summary

Associated British Ports in Southampton seeks a Maintenance Engineer to carry out routine inspections and maintenance of operational and cruise assets, ensuring facilities remain safe and ready to support customers and vessel operations.

You will work on a 21-day rotating shift pattern (Early and Late shifts) with weekends, and benefits include pension from day one, private healthcare and training opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance, engineering, facilities, plant, industrial or operational environments.
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in a busy operational setting.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
  • The ability to work at height.
  • Electrical qualifications such as 17th or 18th Edition are beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine inspections and maintenance of operational and cruise assets.
  • Support berth preparation activities, including positioning passenger boarding bridges, gangways and associated equipment.
  • Conduct pre-use checks and ensure assets are safe and ready for operation.
  • Provide reactive maintenance and fault response across the port.
  • Assist with vessel arrival and departure operations.
  • Support wider maintenance and operational teams as required.
  • Contribute to the safe and efficient running of Southampton Port.

Working as part of the shift team, you'll help maintain and prepare a variety of port and cruise-related assets, ensuring facilities remain safe, operational and ready to support customers and vessel operations.

No two days are the same. One day you could be carrying out planned maintenance checks, and the next supporting the arrival of some of the world's largest cruise ships.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

Shift Pattern

This role operates on a 21-day rotating shift pattern, including weekends.

  • Early Shift: 04:30 – 13:30
  • Late Shift: 13:15 – 22:15
