Job summary

Kirklees Metropolitan Council is seeking a proactive highway safety professional to deliver community schemes that improve parking and congestion. The role involves managing a small team, prioritising workloads, and working in a political environment to respond to public, councillor and MP requests with practical solutions.

You will have knowledge of Traffic Regulations Orders and experience with electronic systems, and you will be supported by a friendly team, ongoing training, and an excellent

Qualifications

• Experience managing a small team and guiding junior officers to design minor traffic schemes.
• Ability to prioritise workloads.
• Experience dealing with challenging customers and a strong customer focus.
• Ability to investigate and respond to requests from the public, local councillors and MPs and develop solutions to highway safety issues.
• Skills to work in a political environment.
• Basic knowledge of processing Traffic Regulations Orders and when they are used.
• Ability to consult with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to assess potential housing impacts on the Highway Network.

The Team

Do you have an interest in highway safety and have some knowledge of Traffic and Highway Law? Would you like to make a difference to parking and congestion on our roads and around schools: Would you enjoy a varied role where you would focus on the delivery of community schemes to improve parking and congestion throughout Kirklees? Are you a problem solver and have excellent knowledge of electronic systems? Then we have the perfect role for you!

The Role

We'd like to hear from you if you

• Can manage a small team and help junior officers design minor traffic schemes when needed.
• Can prioritise your workloads
• Have experience of dealing with challenging customers and have a strong customer focus
• Can investigate and respond to requests from the public, Local Councillors and MPs and develop a range of solutions to a wide range of Highway Safety issues
• Have the necessary skills to work in a political environment
• Have some basic knowledge / experience of what is involved in processing 'Traffic Regulations Orders' and when and where they are used.
• Can consult with a wide range of people
• Can assess the potential impacts of proposed housing on the Highway Network.
