Cann Bridge School is looking for Senior Teaching Assistants to join their dedicated team. This role involves supporting children with severe learning difficulties and mentoring fellow TAs. Job Title: Senior Teaching Assistant
Contract: Permanent & Temporary, Term Time Only + 5 Days (39 weeks)
Hours: 35 hours per week (Based on 31.5 hours at Grade D and 3.5 hours at Grade E). Work either 8:30am–4:00pm or 9:00am–4:30pm.
Actual Salary: £21306-£23953 Actual Salary Pro Rata (Salary may be higher depending on the level of acting-up responsibility)

We are seeking several exceptional, experienced, and aspirational Teaching Assistants to join our team as Senior Teaching Assistants (Grade D/E) – pivotal members of our classrooms, working alongside teachers to transform the lives of our learners. Vacancies are in Key Stage 1 through to Post Bridge College.
Cann Bridge School is a specialist setting in Plymouth for children and young people aged 4–18 with complex and severe learning difficulties. Every pupil has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and every pupil deserves the very best we can offer.
This is more than a support role. You will be working side-by-side with the Class Teacher, together you’ll lead and mentor a team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring the educational, emotional, physical, and social needs of every learner are met. You’ll model excellent practice, take initiative, and lead small group, whole-class learning, and therapeutic interventions. You’ll also take responsibility for the class during teacher PPA or leadership time.
Key Responsibilities:
Be the Class Teacher’s “go-to” colleague and right-hand support
Support and deliver high-quality, adapted lessons to learners with severe learning difficulties
Mentor and guide other TAs, modelling high professional standards and effective practice
Lead learning activities with confidence and creativity, adapting the planned curriculum to meet individual learners’ needs
Support pupils using positive behaviour strategies and a trauma-informed approach
Ensure the smooth classroom operations and create inclusive, independent learning environments that celebrate every learner
Qualifications and Experience:
Has experience supporting children and young people with SEND, including Autism and complex needs
Understands behaviour as communication and responds with empathy and insight
Is confident, calm, reflective, and resilient – with a good sense of humour!
Has a proactive, can-do attitude and consistently strives for excellence
Is ambitious for themselves, their team, and the pupils they support
Holds relevant minimum Level 3 qualification with a commitment to completing the Level 4 HLTA status within 2 years
