Job summary

JCB is seeking a Senior Engineer within the Group Electrics & Controls – Excavator team to deliver electrical and electronic engineering across the business. You will translate customer requirements into robust system and software architectures, drive hardware selection and ensure ECU communications meet industry standards.

The role involves design for manufacture, risk analysis and collaboration with suppliers, with travel as needed and a focus on delivering through structured development

Qualifications

• Experience translating requirements into structured, testable specifications.
• Knowledge of CAN-based protocols such as CANOpen and J1939.
• Experience with validation and verification activities including system integration testing.
• Awareness of functional safety and cybersecurity implications on system and software design.
• Experience delivering electronic systems from concept through to production.

Responsibilities

• Define, interpret and develop customer and system level requirements.
• Design and evaluate architectures across products to enable reuse and rationalisation.
• Select hardware platforms meeting environmental, performance and cost targets.
• Develop software and system architectures for technical solutions.
• Coordinate third‑party suppliers and be responsible for requirements and software architectures.
• Ensure robust ECU communications using SAE J1939 and Ethernet.
• Read schematics and wiring diagrams and ensure design for manufacture.
• Monitor system health and diagnostics using onboard and OTA technologies.
• Apply V‑Model and structured software development processes.
