Job summary

J C Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB) is seeking a Senior Engineer to design, develop, and deploy electrical and electronic systems for the excavator range. You will work in a focused systems engineering team translating design requirements into real-world machine functionality.

Based at the Uttoxeter site, the role involves hands‑on interaction with hardware, software architecture, and cross‑functional collaboration to deliver robust, testable solutions with strong safety and cyber considerations.

Qualifications

• Experience in translating requirements into testable specifications.
• Knowledge of electrical/electronic system design for heavy machinery.
• Familiar with CAN-based communication protocols (CANOpen, J1939).
• Exposure to system validation, verification and safety considerations.

Responsibilities

• Define and develop electrical/electronic systems for excavators.
• Translate customer needs into functional requirements and architectures.
• Coordinate with suppliers on device interfaces and software architectures.
• Ensure ECU communications follow industry standards (SAE J1939, Ethernet).
• Perform validation and verification testing and support safety/cyber considerations.
