Job summary

Recruit 12 is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for a world‑leading engineering organisation delivering advanced electrical and electronic vehicle systems from concept through production.

You will translate customer needs into testable requirements, develop architectures, integrate CAN/CANOpen/J1939 networks and coordinate hardware/software delivery with suppliers, ensuring robust ECU communication and structured development processes.

Qualifications

• Experience in systems, software or electrical/electronic engineering environments.
• Experience translating requirements into functional specifications.
• Knowledge of CAN-based communication protocols (CANOpen, J1939).
• Experience with validation/verification and system integration testing.
• Awareness of functional safety and cybersecurity in product development.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer needs into clear, testable requirements.

• Select hardware solutions meeting environmental, performance and cost requirements.

• Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Support design for manufacture including software deployment and configuration.
• Monitor system health, diagnostics and performance using onboard/remote tech.
• Apply V Model development and consider cybersecurity throughout.

Key Responsibilities

• Translating customer needs into clear, testable functional and system requirements.
• Developing and evaluating system architectures to improve commonality, reuse and product optimisation.
• Designing and integrating electrical and electronic systems across complex vehicle platforms.
• Selecting appropriate hardware solutions to meet environmental, performance and cost requirements.
• Developing software and system architectures to support technical delivery.
• Managing third‑party suppliers, including requirements definition and software architecture coordination.
• Ensuring robust ECU communication using protocols such as CAN, CANOpen, J1939 and Ethernet.
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Supporting design for manufacture, including software deployment and parameter configuration.
• Monitoring system health, diagnostics and performance using onboard and remote technologies.
• Applying structured development methodologies including the V Model approach.
• Considering functional safety and cybersecurity requirements throughout system development.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience working within systems engineering, software engineering or electrical/electronic engineering environments.
• Strong understanding of electronic systems development, from low‑level firmware through to application‑level integration.
• Experience translating requirements into structured and testable functional specifications.
• Knowledge of CAN‑based communication protocols including CANOpen and J1939.
• Experience with validation and verification activities, including black box testing and system integration testing.
• Understanding of functional safety and cybersecurity principles within product development.
• Experience using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and power supplies.
• Knowledge of structured development methodologies and design verification processes.
• Experience delivering electronic systems from concept through to production.
