Job summary

SPX Technologies in Bristol is seeking an experienced Architecture Lead to define and govern end-to-end system architecture across firmware, cloud, and desktop/mobile apps. You will own architecture principles, boundaries, and integration patterns, guiding multiple teams toward scalable, sustainable solutions.

You will collaborate with domain leads, translate complex concepts for executives, and drive pragmatic implementation.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering with architectural roles.
• Designing distributed systems across cloud and app layers.
• Strong knowledge of major cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience integrating hardware or embedded systems with cloud platforms.
• Understanding of modern architecture patterns and best practices.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams.
• Excellent communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Preferred: hardware-software or IoT environments.
• Preferred: mobile and SDK-based architectures.
• Preferred: modernising or migrating legacy systems.
• Preferred: AI-assisted development approaches.
• Preferred: deliver pragmatic, implementable architecture.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve end-to-end architecture across firmware, cloud, and apps.
• Own target system architecture, boundaries, and interaction models.
• Own integration patterns across domains and scalability goals.
• Maintain technology strategy across software, cloud, mobile, and firmware.
• Align technology choices with best practices and long-term sustainability.
• Collaborate with domain leads to evaluate trade-offs and adoption paths.
• Act as accountable owner for architectural integrity across the org.
• Review major design decisions and enforce standards and guardrails.
• Ensure consistency without blocking delivery and manage conflicts.
• Document current landscape and define migration paths for legacy systems.
• Work with PMs and Product Owners to clarify system-level intent.
