Job summary

IC Resources is seeking a Principal Software Architect to drive innovation across cloud, desktop, firmware and mobile platforms. The role focuses on modernising legacy systems and delivering scalable IoT solutions within a complex engineering environment.

You will work with senior management to define technical direction, align technologies, and ensure scalable, maintainable evolution of systems. Hybrid role with three days in the Bristol area.

Qualifications

Job description

My client is a market leading global IoT technology company, with a wide range of hardware & software products/services.

They are looking to hire a Principal Software Architect to drive innovation and shape the future of its connected software ecosystem across cloud, desktop, Firmware and mobile platforms.

This is a high-impact role focused on improving architectural consistency, modernising legacy systems, and driving scalable IoT solutions across a complex engineering environment.

You will work closely with senior management and the relevant technical teams to define technical direction, align technologies, and ensure systems evolve in a scalable and maintainable way.

Key skills/experience required:

• Extensive experience in software engineering, with significant time in architectural roles
• Proven experience designing distributed systems across cloud and application layers
• Strong experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), ideally across multiple
• Experience integrating hardware or embedded systems with cloud-based platforms
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams
• Excellent communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience in IoT or software/hardware environments (eg connected devices, telecoms)
• Exposure to mobile and SDK-based architectures
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development approaches
• Track record of delivering pragmatic, implementable architecture (not just conceptual design)

This is a hybrid role (3 days per week in the office). They are based in Bristol and have plenty of parking onsite.
