Job summary

Baily Garner is looking for a Senior Sustainability Consultant in Eltham to lead IES VE modelling, dynamic thermal analyses, and SAP/SBEM assessments. You will guide design teams to improve building performance and comply with Part L, while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The role offers hybrid working and a route to Project Team Leader responsibilities, with a salary in the 50k–65k range and a strong focus on delivering sustainable, low-carbon building

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant field.
• Membership of a professional body (e.g., CIBSE).
• Proven sustainability consultant experience.
• Experience with building performance modelling (IES VE or equivalent).
• Knowledge of Building Regulations and environmental assessment methodologies.
• Strong analytical skills to translate modelling outputs into recommendations.
• Experience with SAP software.
• Experience preparing, reviewing and quality assuring reports.
• Understanding of BREEAM is advantageous.

Job Title: Senior Sustainability Consultant

Location: Eltham

Salary: £50,000-£65,000

As a Senior Sustainability Consultant, you will lead and deliver Building Physics and environmental modelling across a varied portfolio of projects, from early-stage optioneering through detailed design and post-design analysis. This role offers the potential of hybrid working and Project Team Leader responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading IES Virtual Environment (IES VE) modelling and simulation across projects
• Undertaking dynamic thermal modelling and advising design teams on building performance
• Carrying out Part O overheating and CIBSE Guide A thermal comfort assessments, including relevant industry methodologies and guidance
• Undertaking SAP and SBEM assessments to demonstrate compliance against Part L of the Building Regulations
• Delivering operational energy assessments and supporting energy-efficient, low-carbon building design
• Using modelling to evaluate passive design strategies, building fabric, glazing, shading, ventilation and building services options
• Undertaking daylight, solar and environmental performance analysis where required
• Translating complex modelling outputs into clear, practical design recommendations for clients and multidisciplinary project teams
• Providing technical input from early concept design through planning, detailed design and construction
• Reviewing models, calculations and reports produced by other team members and maintaining high standards of technical quality
• Supporting and mentoring junior consultants, helping develop their Building Physics and modelling capabilities
• Working closely with our wider sustainability, architectural and engineering teams to deliver integrated sustainability strategies
• Building strong relationships with clients and identifying opportunities to develop our Building Physics and sustainability offer

Key skills and experience:

• Degree in a relevant field
• Membership of a professional body e.g. CIBSE
• Proven experience in a Sustainability Consultant role or similar
• Experience using building performance modelling software, such as IES VE or equivalent
• Comprehensive understanding on Building Regulations, building physics and environmental assessment methodologies
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret modelling outputs and develop practical, evidence-based recommendations
• Experience using Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) software
• Experience preparing, reviewing and quality assuring technical reports and project deliverables
• Understanding of BREEAM is an advantage but not essential
