Job summary

Baily Garner LLP is seeking a Senior Sustainability Consultant to lead Building Physics modelling and environmental assessments. You will guide projects from early ideation through detailed design, integrating passive design strategies, energy analyses and compliance with Part L.

The role offers hybrid working and a lead role within cross-disciplinary teams, with mentoring responsibilities for junior staff and opportunities to develop sustainability offerings for clients.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a Sustainability Consultant role or similar.
• Experience using building performance modelling software such as IES VE or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of Building Regulations, building physics and environmental assessment methodologies.
• Ability to interpret modelling outputs and develop practical, evidence-based recommendations.
• Experience using SAP software.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver Building Physics and environmental modelling across projects.
• Undertake dynamic thermal modelling and advise design teams on building performance.
• Carry out Part O overheating and CIBSE Guide A thermal comfort assessments.
• Undertake SAP and SBEM assessments to demonstrate compliance with Part L.
• Deliver operational energy assessments and support low‑carbon design.
• Evaluate passive design strategies, building fabric, glazing, shading, ventilation and services.
• Perform daylight, solar and environmental performance analyses as required.
• Translate modelling outputs into practical design recommendations for clients and teams.
• Provide technical input from concept through construction and delivery.
• Review models, calculations and reports for quality and accuracy.
• Support and mentor junior consultants in Building Physics and modelling.
• Collaborate with sustainability, architectural and engineering teams to deliver integrated strategies.
• Develop client relationships and identify opportunities to extend Building Physics services.
