Job summary

Active Care Group in Swindon is seeking a Senior Support Worker for Pear Tree House, our children’s home for those with learning disabilities and complex needs. The role involves leading shifts, supporting daily activities and ensuring safety and tailored care plans.

You’ll safeguard and promote welfare of children, complete reviews, manage risk assessments, and collaborate with the service manager. Generous benefits and on-call responsibilities accompany a 37.5 hour rota.

Qualifications

  • Strong organisational, time management, planning and communication skills.
  • Flexible, professional, and positive approach.
  • Level 3 NVQ or Level 3 diploma in residential childcare (England) (RQ) or willingness to work towards after probation.
  • Proven reliability in terms of full attendance and timekeeping.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.
  • Self-confidence and ability to manage challenging situations.
  • Driving Licence would be preferable.
  • Ability to address and respond to employee issues fairly and consistently.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting our children and young people with daily activities.
  • Effectively lead the shift by ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times.
  • Supporting with reviews of children’s care plans.
  • Ensure that all children and young people have up-to-date risk assessments and person-centred goals.
  • Attend reviews and update children’s plans as and when required with the service manager.
  • Ensure the children and young people feel safe, and are supported to thrive within the home and their educational environments.
  • Carry out personal care.
  • Cover all aspects of the support worker role and work closely with the children and young people, supporting the team on the floor to meet the needs of the service.
  • To be part of the on-call team.
  • Responsible for attending and completing all mandatory training.
  • Administering medication (if required).

Pear Tree House is a residential and short breaks children’s home for children and young people with Learning Disabilities and Complex needs. At Pear Tree House, we work with a broad range of complex needs, which include:

  • Autistic spectrum conditions
  • Moderate or severe learning difficulties
  • Global developmental delays
  • specific language/ communication
  • social-emotional difficulties
What you'll be working:
  • Your hours are based on a rota supporting the children and then allocated supernumerary time to support with the management of the home.
  • £29,525.97 (FTE) Per annum (Pro rata) Permanent 37.5 hours Every other weekend On-call responsibilities
What you’ll be doing:

The post holder has a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
