Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council’s Sandwell Libraries and Archives is seeking a committed Senior Supervisor to join the Oldbury Library Town Team. You will help oversee day-to-day operations across multiple sites, supervise staff, manage facilities, and ensure high-quality library services and community engagement.

Working with the Library Manager, you will coordinate events, support service delivery, and maintain welcoming environments for customers of all ages.

Qualifications

  • Two years supervisory experience and ability to lead staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience of providing services to the public and working with adults and children.
  • Excellent IT skills and ability to use library management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Library Manager in staff and library operations.

Job description

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council,

Sandwell Libraries and Archives is looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Senior Supervisor to join the Oldbury Library Town Team.

This is a challenging and rewarding role in a busy library environment, where no two days are the same. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality library services and supporting the operational and strategic development of the library service.

About The Role

Working in partnership with the Library Manager, you will help oversee the day-to-day operation of 5 Oldbury libraries, including staff supervision, building management, and service delivery.

You will be responsible for a wide range of duties associated with the presentation of library services, activities, and events, as well as administrative routines and procedures.

You will also support the delivery of events and community activities, helping to ensure that the library remains a welcoming and vibrant hub.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Library Manager in the management of staff and library operations.
  • Assist with the operational and strategic development of library services.
  • Coordinate and deliver library activities, events, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure high standards of customer service and the presentation of library services.
  • Carry out administrative routines and procedures efficiently and accurately.
  • Support building management and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for customers and staff.
  • Assist with evening events and other activities as required.

You will need
  • Two years Supervisory experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience of co-operating with others as part of a team
  • Experience of managing your own workload and working to deadlines
  • Experience of working with adults and children
  • At least two years’ experience of providing direct services to the public
  • Excellent I.T skills

You may be required to work Saturdays and be flexible in the hours you work in the week.

Recognised library or customer service qualification (e.g. City and Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3 in Customer Care OR be working towards one OR equivalent skills and experience)
