Job summary

Mint Selection are partnered with a leading energy organisation to recruit an experienced Substation Mechanical Supervisor for Exeter. The role focuses on supervising the mechanical installation of 400kV substation equipment and related infrastructure on a long-term contract.

You will oversee HV equipment installation, coordinate with electrical and civil teams, and ensure compliance with RAMS, ITPs and project standards through construction, installation and commissioning phases.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Mechanical Supervisor, Substation Supervisor or Installation Supervisor on HV substations.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant substation experience, 10+ years desirable.
• Strong experience delivering transmission-level substations, ideally at 400kV.
• Experience with National Grid (NGET) and/or SPEN sites is desirable.
• Hands-on with installation and assembly of HV substation equipment.
• Experience with GE / GE Vernova equipment advantageous.
• Strong understanding of GIS/AIS equipment installation, alignment, and QA/QC.
• Solid RAMS, permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanical installation activities across the 400kV package, ensuring safety and programme adherence.
• Oversee installation of HV substation equipment: switchgear, transformers, busbars and structures.
• Supervise GIS/AIS installation per drawings and specs.
• Coordinate mechanical subcontractors and installation teams; provide technical support.
• Ensure works comply with drawings, ITPs, RAMS and standards.
• Own QA/QC activities: inspections, punch lists, non-conformances close-out.
• Monitor progress and address delays, clashes and quality concerns.
• Coordinate interfaces with electrical, civil and commissioning teams.
• Conduct toolbox talks, site briefings and inspections promoting HSEQ culture.
• Maintain records and progress reports; support planning and reporting.
• Assist with testing, commissioning and handover toward energisation.
