Job summary

Siemens Energy in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced Substation Automation Engineer to lead station-level automation design and OT integration on key projects.

You will work with SCADA, RTU, HMIs, gateways and IEC 61850, ensuring robust communication and cyber security across multi-site substations.

You will mentor engineers, drive standardization, support testing and commissioning, and help advance digitalisation within the team.

Qualifications

• Experience in substation automation, SCADA, RTU or control systems engineering.
• Ability to design station-level automation architectures and integration strategies.
• Strong knowledge of HMI/SCADA components and IEC 61850 communication.
• Proven ability to document signals, test records and engineering outputs.
• Experience guiding teams and ensuring conformance to standards.
• Excellent written and spoken communication for customer-facing work.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of station-level automation architecture and OT integration strategy on allocated projects.
• Provide senior guidance on system integration, communication architecture, and cyber-related engineering decisions.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and engineering governance for substation automation and cyber security.
• Coach and review the work of less experienced engineers, promoting standardization of automation architectures and methods.
• Identify opportunities to streamline engineering processes and enhance quality through new tools and methodologies.
• Coordinate FAT, integrated system testing, SAT, and commissioning readiness for automation solutions.
